Ferenc Deák Mansion

There is some debate surrounding the birthplace of Ferenc Deák, the Wise Man of the Nation. According to a story from Zala County, the Wise Man of the Nation was born on a horse-drawn carriage halfway between Kehida and Söjtör. We cannot know for sure, but both towns commemorate Ferenc Deák and consider him their native son.

Ferenc Deák lived in this building between 1808 and 1854, and the exhibition here is meant to show his life and thoughts. The mansion was completely renovated for the 200th anniversary of Ferenc Deák’s birth in 2003. The permanent exhibition entitled “The Sage of the Nation, Pride of Zala” opened in the eastern wing of the building, where Deák once lived, presenting the figure of Ferenc Deák and his ideas, which are still relevant today.

On the way to Deák Fountain

Starting from the right side of the Kúria, we reach the road leading to the Deák fountain. During the approximately 1.5-hour walk, we can see the mountain houses of the locals. Less than a hundred years ago, many villagers lived on the Kehida mountain and cultivated the land.

Ferenc Deák was a great nature lover and spent a lot of time on his estate in Kehida. According to legend, he often sat under the trees surrounding the Deák well, lost in deep thought. According to dowsing measurements, this location has beneficial earth radiation, as the St. George line runs deep underground. The well can be reached from Kehidakustány via Kúria Road, and signs on the mountain road indicate the location of the Deák Well.

Country house

In the village of Kehidakustány, there is a farmhouse built in the early 1900s, which houses a permanent local history exhibition. The purpose of the country house is to showcase rural life and strengthen Hungarian identity.
